ANAESTHESIA
Ratan Hospital for Women and Children is the first ever hospital to bring the concept of labor analgesia i.e pain relief during labor and delivery, in Bihar. Qualifying as a centre of excellence, we provide anesthesia service for all types of surgical and obstetrics services including provision of painless delivery.
We have services of well-trained paediatrics and obstetrics anaesthetists to provide safe anaesthetics and speedy recovery after operations. A high dependency obstetrics care unit is provided to the needy patients who have complicated pregnancies like diabetes, hypertension, pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia cases.
Anaesthetists work on all the four stages of patient care for a safe anesthesia.
Preparation
we first assess the patients’ risk factors before agreeing on an anaesthetic plan
Induction
Initiating anaesthesia
Maintenance
we continue anaesthesia and monitor the patient’s condition. We check the activity of the heart, blood pressure, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, breathing, body temperature, depth of anaesthesia and the body fluid balance
Recovery
we reverse anaesthesia to support the patient’s recovery and we have dedicated recovery ward with all monitoring equipment.
Three types of anesthesia are provided here as per the need and safety of the patient. Spinal, Epidural and general anesthesia. Not all anesthesia makes the patient unconscious, some work by blocking the signals that pass along the nerves to the brain. Spinal and epidural anesthesia are the two examples of it. When the drug starts to wear off slowly, the normal sensations come back which includes pain.
The anesthesiologists of Ratan Hospital for Women and Children have specialists expertise in obstetrics. We excel in painless delivery and also manage complicated pregnancies like pre-eclampsia and hypertension patients.

Epidural anesthesia injects a local anesthetic into the space around the spinal nerves in your lower back. This anaesthetic blocks the pain from labor contractions during the birth very effectively. With the provision of modern local anesthetic drug and some narcotic analgesics the mothers with epidural in place can usually move and push the baby out when the need is. Most patients do not experience any side effects, however, it may include dizziness and nausea.

Entonox is the well-established pain relieving gas mixture, which consists of 50% nitrous oxide and 50% oxygen. Entonox is the self-controlled anesthesia, the patient can control the gas while using it. The gas is breathed in through a mouthpiece, which is held between the teeth and tongue or may use a mask. The patient can either keep using the gas, or stop when not in need. The effect wears off very quickly and has no residual effect on the unborn baby. (first time in BIHAR and Jharkhand)
Anesthesia through injection is the general way of giving the dose, which has been in use for a long time today. The general anesthetic needs to be administered correctly, and so is handled by expert and top anesthesiologists in Patna. The side effects may include dizziness and nausea, while a few patients may experience none. The anesthesia department is also open for children, handled by experts in the field. Monitoring the case well before the treatment is our USP, which helps in a smooth and painless surgery.
